Who can open a merchant account?
Find out if you are eligible to open a merchant account
You can open a merchant account if you are a registered business or legal entity, such as a church, charity or sports association.
Qualified entity types include:
- Companies limited by shares
- Sole proprietors
- General and limited partnerships
- Mutual associations
- Sports and religious organisations
- Charities
Merchant accounts are not available to individuals.
Regional Eligibility
Merchant account providers (or acquiring banks or acquirers) are licensed to provide service by region. CardCorp partners with acquirers in the European Economic Area (EEA), which means to qualify for a CardCorp merchant account, your registered business entity must be resident in the European Economic Area (EEA), which encompasses the EU, UK, Monaco, Norway and Switzerland.
If your organisation is registered outside of the EEA, you will need to find a local provider in your region.
